Play a modpack in multiplayer
Updated 18 August 2026
You’ve installed a modpack and you’d like to play with your friends? You need to create a server, with everything required to run your modpack.
Every player installs the pack
Everyone downloads the pack from the same place: from Modrinth or CurseForge, for example, depending on where its author published it.
The easiest way is to use the site’s app, or a launcher like Prism Launcher, which can import both formats.
The server version of your modpack
The pack you install in your game is the client version. A server needs the server version of the same pack: a file published alongside it, without the client-side mods.
Setting it up yourself means downloading that file, extracting it wherever you want to keep your server,
then running its start script, usually called start.sh or start.bat.
Once it’s running, you and anyone on the same Wi-Fi network can join your server using your computer’s local IP address.
You can also use 127.0.0.1, but only from a game running on the same computer as the server.
At Mineon, it’s all in your control panel:
- Stop your server.
- Open the Versions tab, Modpacks section.
- Search for the pack by name in the search field.
- Pick the version from the list, then click Switch to this modpack.
How much RAM do you need?
A modpack needs far more than a regular server: every mod loads its blocks, items and recipes at startup, and all of it stays in memory. A pack with around a hundred mods usually runs on 6 GB. Big survival packs, the ones with more than three hundred mods, need considerably more.
