Change the difficulty
Updated 18 August 2026
Difficulty decides how strong mobs are, how hunger works and whether hostile mobs spawn. It’s set for the whole server.
On Mineon, two clicks
- Open the Settings tab, Gameplay group.
- Pick the level from the Difficulty list, then save.
- Restart the server. The setting is only read at startup.
By hand
In server.properties:
gamemode=survival
hardcore=false
difficulty=easy <-- here
Four values are accepted: peaceful, easy, normal and hard.
What each level changes
Peaceful. No hostile mobs spawn, health regenerates on its own, and hunger can’t kill you. Hostile mobs already in the world disappear.
Easy. Mobs spawn and attack, but don’t hit hard. Hunger can take you down to five hearts, but never lower.
Normal. The game’s default setting. Hunger can leave you on half a heart.
Hard. Mobs hit the hardest, zombies break down wooden doors and call for reinforcements, and hunger can kill you.
Important
Hardcore mode ignores this setting. If hardcore is on, the server
runs on Hard whatever the difficulty setting says, and death is permanent.
